Deutsche Bank is fined $150million for failing to intervene as Jeffrey Epstein made suspicious payments to Russian models, settled lawsuits and paid girls’ tuition and rent after his 2008 conviction for child sex abuse

  • Deutsche Bank has been fined by the New York Department of Financial Services
  • Epstein was convicted of soliciting a child prostitute in 2008 in Palm Beach
  • He was then labeled a sex offender and the bank had a duty to monitor his accounts, the NY State government says
  • But for four years, he made suspicious payments to Russian models and women ‘with Eastern European surnames’
  • He also paid for girls’ tuition, settled their rent and paid for their hotel expenses
  • Epstein also used his accounts to give money to ‘co-conspirators’ who the government did not name
  • He also used the accounts to settle lawsuits of more than $7million and pay legal fees
  • Over four years, he withdrew more than $800,000 in cash, the government says
  • The fine also applies to Deutsche’s dealings with FBME Bank and Danske Estonia
  • Danske Estonia was at the heart of a money laundering scandal whereby Russian oligarchs funneled €200 billion through accounts
  • FBME – now defunct- also required a higher level of scrutiny which Deutsche failed to apply
