The New Yorker
We are all on to something, it’s worth putting together all the links in one place.
A recent 60 minutes episode describes the ‘threat’ that China poses to US national security, not because of tantalum, but from other rare earth elements. China is the world’s single source of these elements. US defense systems depend on rare earth elements needed in manufacturing tomahawk cruise missiles, lasers and guidance systems on weapons. In other words, the US depends on China for its weaponry.
There is a video to go with this, I’m having a hell of a time trying to access it and I have the CBS all access app. I went to youtube, and the video is unavailable, gee I wonder why? Let’s continue the dive.
Editor’s Note: In September 2014, while we were working on this story, a Pentagon spokesman emailed us to say:
“The Department of Defense is confident in the ability of the defense industry to remain supplied with all necessary rare earths for U.S. defense acquisition programs. The Department continuously monitors and assesses its raw materials requirements, and if necessary, will again take action to ensure their availability to the defense industrial base.”
Well, that’s interesting, and I can see why the video isn’t obtainable.
That confidence is at odds with the Pentagon’s Inspector General’s Office, which issued a report on July 3, 2014, that concluded:
“DoD [Department of Defense] lacked a comprehensive and reliable process to assess REE supply and demand…. [and] As a result, DoD may not have identified all REEs with expected shortfalls, increasing the risk that those shortfalls will adversely affect critical weapons systems production in the DIB, and overall DoD readiness.”
OMG, read the transcript on the link above, and I like to understand what you think about the Chinese stealing the technology right from under us. I speculate that the Chinese are behind the fake global warming social media justice warriors. AOC is telling people the world is ending in 12 years if we don’t go green right now! The Democrats and their woke communist control speech.
People wake up! They are grooming you, and you don’t even know it. Do you remember the movie, the last emperor? After world war II, he was sent to re-education camps that still exist today. I suspect this is what’s happening, more and more TV shows are talking the woke speech, groupthink.
The Xinjiang re-education camps (referred to by the government of the People’s Republic of China as Vocational Education and Training Centers) are concentration camps that have been operated by the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Regional government for the purpose of interning Uyghur Muslims since 2014. They have significantly intensified since a hardline party secretary, Chen Quanguo, took charge of the region in August 2016. These camps are reportedly operated outside of the legal system; many Uyghurs have reportedly been interned without trial, and no charges have been levied against them. Local authorities are reportedly holding hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs and Muslims from other ethnic minorities in these camps, for the stated purpose of countering extremism and terrorism.
As of 2018, it is estimated that the Chinese authorities may have detained hundreds of thousands, perhaps a million, of Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, Hui (Muslims) and other ethnic Turkic Muslims, Christians as well as some foreign citizens such as Kazakhstanis, who are kept in these secretive internment camps throughout the region. In May 2018, Randall Schriver of the United States Department of Defense claimed that “at least a million but likely closer to three million citizens” were imprisoned in detention centers in a strong condemnation of the “concentration camps.” In August 2018, a United Nations human rights panel said that it had received many credible reports that 1 million ethnic Uyghurs in China have been held in “re-education camps.”
In 2019, the United Nations ambassadors from 23 nations, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States signed a letter condemning China’s mass detention of the Uyghurs and other minority groups, urging the Chinese government to close the camps. Algeria, Congo, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, Pakistan, North Korea, Egypt, Nigeria, the Philippines, and Sudan are among 54 other states which signed a counter-letter supporting China’s policy in Xinjiang.
I think we are headed into hot water and do you know how to boil a frog slowly.
